Memorial Portrait from a Photograph

A memorial portrait made from a photograph you already have. Preview it free with a watermark, then download print-ready files if it looks like them.

A glass-negative portrait of an older man in a suit, with emulsion flaking along the hairline and a pale streak at the left.
Original
The same portrait restored, with the flaking and streak cleaned and a plain studio background. The face is unchanged.

A portrait from a photograph you already have

A memorial portrait here is a restored photograph, not a new drawing of a person. You bring the picture. The site repairs what it can, shows you the result beside the original, and, if you pay, gives you files sized for a service.

The preview is free and watermarked. You can try up to three times, with a different background choice if you need it. You pay only when it looks right. There is no account to create.

What you see before you pay

The preview is labeled: original on one side, restored on the other. The watermark comes off after payment. Closing the tab deletes an unpaid photograph on a short timer. Opening checkout keeps it until that timer runs out.

Black and white stays black and white unless you ask for color. A studio background is the usual choice and can remove things at the edge. Keep the original background when the place matters. The face is left as it was. We automatically re-run a result that fails our quality check up to 2 more times at no extra cost. If it still fails, that attempt counts as one try, it isn’t shown, and that result can’t be purchased.

Look at the eyes and the mouth, not at the cleaner background. That is the check that matters. If it does not look like them, do not pay.

What a paid portrait includes

A portrait includes every print size made from that restoration: program covers, easel portraits, a prayer card, a bookmark, and an obituary photo, plus short clips for the memorial slideshow. Video is four clips of the restored photograph. Portrait + video is the portrait and all four clips. Prices are on the pricing page, before tax. Checkout shows the amount in your local currency.

Print files include bleed and crop marks. The portrait does not add a name, a date, or a verse. Those belong in the program or on the card, set in type, not burned into the photograph.

After payment the larger print files are prepared, usually in about two minutes. Video is four clips of the restored photograph. Portrait + video is the portrait in every print size, plus all four clips.

Which photograph to start with

Choose the frame where the face is largest and least damaged, even if another picture is more recent. If the best face is in a group photograph, crop to that person before you upload. The restoration keeps the photograph you give it. A tiny face enlarged to 16×20 asks it to invent detail. The site warns you when the photograph is very small.

Old album prints, glass negatives, and faded cabinet cards are ordinary starting points. The examples on the homepage are public-domain and museum photographs, restored the same way, so you can see scratches and fading lifted without the face being replaced.

When the file is ready, the funeral home or a local photo lab or print shop can make the program and the easel. Confirm the size and the timing with that shop.
